A huge thank you to all of you from the people of Sumba
Meanwhile, the campaign is also in full swing on the ground over there in Sumba, where André and the villagers are bursting with energy. Here are a few illustrations:
Visit existing installations to check the condition of equipment, pumps, solar panels, etc., and make any necessary repairs or improvements. Because of the state of the roads, even though these sites are no more than 30 km apart, any journey takes a whole day, not to mention mechanical problems! On site, everyone pitches in, and the work is done in a cheerful, good-natured atmosphere! Sometimes equipment breaks down, costing time and money. Patience and perseverance are useful qualities in Indonesia!
Preparation of molds to make concrete rings for conical shafts.
Installation of a 9th water distribution system in a remote village in the middle of the jungle.
Preparing Lokakarya and the Kambala Malupu training site in Kodi. André presented his major educational project to the Regency administration, the Public Works Department and representatives of the PKK, a highly influential women’s association in Indonesia, and the first educational workshops got underway, combining theory and practice in the field, with a mix of elected representatives and local residents from the communities affected by the wells and facilities. The PKK has become one of the most assiduous members of the workshops, a major asset as the role of women in facility management is paramount. Since the beginning of March, nine sequences combining instruction and installation have been carried out. Eight users of systems already in place at the other end of the island joined in.
On March 20, André was able to take delivery of some of the equipment for the work-school project.
Finally, the icing on the cake is that André’s actions are being emulated, and a Jakarta NGO, YUBN, and Don Bosco have asked him to take part in the Sumba Consortium projects. Representatives came to visit the sites and listen to André’s explanations. He’s been promoted to H2O advisor to help them bring water to a village near Waru-Wora! Bravo André! One more activity on his already busy agenda, but it will be for the second half of 2023. Priority is given to the pedagogical workshop project.
See you soon for more news.
